Traditional electric tank type water heaters are reliable, low maintenance, easy to install, and eliminate safety concerns associated with gas combustion. If your home has a significant photovoltaic (PV) array, an electric tank may have cost savings advantages. Be aware that electric water heaters take longer to heat up than most gas heaters. Hybrid Electric Heat Pump Water Heaters
Relatively new to the market, and steadily garnering more interest, are hybrid electric water heaters that incorporate heat pump technology. Efficiency ratings are very high on these products – in the 3.5 to 3.7 UEF range for some models – they represent another big step in the direction of decreasing dependence on fossil fuels.
