Navien Has Joined our Tankless Water Heater Line!

November 11, 2024

Our plumbing and heating team at Save Home Heat Company, serving the Denver-Boulder and North Metro area for over 40 years, is pleased to announce the addition of Navien brand, gas-fired, whole-house tankless water heaters to our product line. Along with Rinnai, we now represent two of the most respected and established tankless water heater manufacturers in the industry. They are a great complement to each other and give our team the ability to even further fine tune our recommendations for the specific needs of our customers, and which are also the best fit for their homes.

In this post, we’ll take a closer look at the manufacturer Navien and their tankless water heaters that are currently trending with our customers.

Navien: A Reputable, Quality Manufacturer

Navien, Inc., a subsidiary of KyungDong Navien, better known as KD Navien, was founded in 1978 in South Korea, with an initial focus on manufacturing water heaters. Over the years, the company evolved and its product line now includes a range of standard and ultra high efficiency tankless water heaters, condensing and combination boilers, water treatment products, and more. In 2006, Navien entered the North American market, quickly establishing itself as a leader in energy efficient heating solutions. The company’s business model emphasizes sustainability and advanced technology.

Today, Navien is recognized globally for its commitment to quality and efficiency in both residential and commercial applications.

Navien & Rinnai – A Great Tankless Team!

As mentioned above, Navien is an excellent complement to Rinnai in our tankless water heater product line. Our installation and service teams at Save Home Heat appreciate that Navien tankless heaters are relatively straightforward to install and set up, and routine servicing is well designed and accessible without difficulty. In a number of cases, venting parameters for Navien tankless heaters are more flexible (longer max allowable length) than many other manufacturers. Depending on the installation, this bonus can be a critical factor.

Another reason for elevating Navien to a more active participant in our product line is due to customer requests for comparative quotes. Navien, like Rinnai, is a well known, respected, established manufacturer, globally as well as in the U.S. Having the ability to choose which brand and product our team prefers for a specific customer, whether because of pricing, venting, BTU sizing and performance, unit dimensions, or even customer preference – the list goes on – is certainly in the best interests of our customers.

Navien Tankless Water Heaters That Are Trending With Our Customers

As we have seen with the Rinnai product line, our most popular Navien tankless water heaters are also top-of-the-line, high efficiency, condensing models. The two Navien models that are trending with our customers currently are ultra-high efficiency models in the NPE Series, the NPE-240S2 and the NPE-240A2.

Energy Star HVAC Products

These two units have the highest BTU rating (i.e. heating capacity) available in Navien’s residential condensing tankless heater line. This translates to the greatest hot water output – which is is especially important at our elevation in the Denver-Boulder/North Metro area, where the performance of virtually all gas-fired appliances is derated due to the reduced amount of oxygen in the air at our altitude, as compared to sea level.

All NPE-240 Navien tankless heaters feature:

  • Stainless steel heat exchangers
  • 199,000 BTU per hour heating input
  • Automatic, modulating gas valves to accurately meet real-time hot water demand and keep gas consumption at a minimum
  • Natural gas or propane fuel capability
  • Direct-vent, sealed combustion, sidewall venting – quiet, safe, and efficient
  • Wall-hung installation
  • User-friendly, onboard touchscreen controls and diagnostics/monitoring
  • Wi-Fi capability
  • Flow ratings to meet a wide range of whole-house applications
  • Impressive UEF efficiency ratings of .96 (S2 model) or .95 (A2 model)

The Navien NPE Series ‘A2’ Models: Hot Water Even Faster!

The difference between the two Navien units mentioned above, both of which are growing in popularity with our tankless water heater customers, is that the NPE Series ‘A2’ models (as in the NPE-240A2) contain Navien’s patented ComfortFlow® hot water recirculation system. According to Navien, the ComfortFlow® recirc system is the first of its kind to include a buffer tank, a recirculation pump, and fine-tuned controls, factory-installed and standard in a specific model of tankless water heater.

This exclusive, advanced hot water recirculation system from Navien means even faster hot water delivery (even at very low flow rates), even less wasted water, and no more “cold water sandwiches.” A “cold water sandwich” is an occurrence that can occur on tankless systems when the unit first fires up (warm, then cold, then warm again). This can happen when cold water is introduced into the hot water supply line during frequent on/off operations.

It’s worth noting that our team at Save Home Heat Company also installs standard, non-condensing Navien and Rinnai models with UEF ratings in the .80 UEF range. These models can be a good fit in certain cases when replacing older tankless units that have outlived their usefulness.

Tankless Water Heaters & Water Softeners: A Great Match

Consider the impacts that hard water can have on your home’s appliances and plumbing system. If you have hard water, you’re likely to see white, powdery scale build-up in a wide variety of places around your home, on faucets, sinks, tubs, and showers, for just a few examples among many.

But just because it isn’t painfully obvious, that doesn’t mean hard water may not be preparing to affect your home, and maybe your wallet, too. Water heaters, for example, and tankless heaters in particular, are susceptible to slow, steady scale depositing that can eventually, negatively impact hot water output, efficiency, and even the life expectancy of your system.

Note that professional flushing out of a tankless water heater is part of most manufacturers’ recommended routine maintenance procedures. A professionally installed, properly maintained, quality water softener will make that procedure less cumbersone, and also reduce the frequency that flushing is needed.

So, it makes good sense to consider installing a water softener when you have a new tankless or standard water heater put in, or to consider plans for a date in the near future. In addition to helping to ensure efficiency, performance, and a long serviceable life, pairing a water softener with your water heater provides a range of other health and wellbeing benefits, too!
